Sherri Williams to deliver lecture “Invisibility, Hypervisibility and Injury: How Extreme Media Images Harm Black Women”

Dr. Sherri Williams

On Febrary 22, 2016 at 4:30 PM, Anna Julia Cooper Center Postdoctoral Fellow in Communication Dr. Sherri Williams will deliver the public lecture “Invisibility, Hypervisibility and Injury: How Extreme Media Images Harm Black Women.” Her lecture will be held in Annenberg Forum at Carswell Hall on Wake Forest University’s Reynolda campus.

Dr. Williams holds a PhD in Mass Communications as well as an MA in Magazine, Newspaper, and Online Journalism from Syracuse University. Her work examines social media, social television, and how people of color use and are represented on social media, and how people of color and marginalized peoples are represented in the media. Prior to academia, Williams spent a decade as a print journalist, including for The Associated Press; her work has appeared in Essence, Ebony, and The Source, and she has presented twice at SXSW interactive. Dr. Williams teaches in the WFU Dept. of Communications.
